Do They Ever Stop?
1st Northwood exec committee members don’t take the summer off – oh no! Paul, Geoff and Richard spent last Sunday selling loads of stuff, mostly left-over Jumble items, at a car boot sale.
Another £300 for the Appeal Fund kitty – well done chaps!
Our £100k Appeal is One Third of the Way There!
Yes, we have hit the £33,333.33 mark!
The event that gave us the last few pounds was Norfest 2017, a large community Open Day held at RAF Northolt on 22nd July. A small band of 1st Northwood volunteers set up stalls with games for children to have a go at, plus some promotional material for the adults. All day, we battled against the wind and driving rain; in true 1N fashion we were prepared with waterproof clothing for ourselves and plenty of weights and string to lash our displays down. The pictures say it all!
Sun Shines on Plant Sale
Our 25th Plant Sale was blessed with fine weather which brought the punters out in their droves. Over the course of the weekend we took almost £2,000; this will be shared between the Northwood Live at Home Scheme and 1st Northwood New Hut Appeal.
It was good to see a number of Explorers and their Mums coming along to help, the carry-to-car service was popular. Thanks also to Sharon and Wendy for running the refreshment stall, we certainly needed plenty to drink in the heat.
Bag Packing Brings Appeal Total to £21k!
Well done to the 1st Northwood bag-packers who raised £816 (which becomes £1,000 with Gift Aid) at the South Ruislip branch of Sainsbury’s on Sunday 4th June. We had the youngest Beaver (who has to stand on a box to reach the shopping), the youngest Cub and the youngest Scout all taking part. In total 14 different young people, 4 leaders and 8 parents participated. Thank you!
Quiz Supper a HUGE Success!
On Saturday 3rd June, Maxine, Helen and Alison proved that ladies really can multi-task, and how!
OK, they did have a little help from family, friends and spouses. Their Quiz Supper was a great success from every point of view; we all had a great evening out and it raised another £1,100 for the Appeal.
In addition, Andrew Riley, chairman of Northwood Hills Residents’ Association, presented GSL Mike Bennett with a very large cheque for £2,000.
Thank You, Lions.
Northwood Lions Club raises loads of money at their Lions Den market every Saturday morning, all for local causes. At a cheque presentation evening on Thursday 25th May, Lions Den manager, Olive Fairclough presented our GSL, Mike Bennett with a cheque for £2,000 – for the New Hut Appeal.

Sgt Ben Phipps goes the extra 6.2 miles!
Congratulations and thanks to our local Police Sergeant who completed the Vitality 10k Run in 59mins 10secs yesterday, whilst raising £425 for the New Hut Appeal.
Well done, Sharon & Wendy!
The latest Indoor Boot Sale at the Hut proved a great way to shift a lot of left-over Jumble. We could have done with more buyers, but a worthwhile £400 was raised for the Appeal. Thanks to all who made it happen, especially the Beavers and Scouts! See you at the next one, 25th June.
New Mayor supports the Appeal
On Thursday 11th May, one of our patrons, Cllr Carol Melvin, was elected Mayor of Hillingdon. She announced that she will be supporting three charities during her year in office, one of which is The 1st Northwood New Scouting Centre Appeal! Thank you, Carol.
